Abstract

Dear All Participants,
I am pleased to welcome you to the 5th Iranian Congress of Clinical Nutrition. Clinical nutrition is a fluid clinical speciality that encounters emerging and sometimes conflicting health issues. We face malnutrition as a major nutritional disease in hospitals. The current rate of malnutrition in general hospitals in Iran is 25% of hospitalized patients. On the other hand, we are seeing a worrying increase in obesity in the Iranian community. The Obesity World estimation of overweight and obesity is around 81% of the adult population in 2035 in Iran. This figure stands at 62% of the adult population in 2024. The rate of obesity in Iran will shoot up at the rate of 5.9% annually which is a worrisome figure. The main topics of this congress have been chosen to address these issues.
Access to food is a basic human right. At the moment more than 96% of the Gaza population is suffering from man-made food shortages and malnutrition. Inhuman acts of starvation and weaponizing food against the civilian population by the Israeli army are crimes against humanity. Iranian Society for Clinical Nutrition condemns this act.
